Day 57 - May 5

Day 57 - May 5

Just as the spring weather was becoming familiar, a cold snap has arrived. Like yesterday, the day was cloudy from start to finish with heavy rain in the afternoon.

The gym was warm though, where I hit new bests on the squat and single leg press using 150kg and 180kg. I find it’s easier to track progress in the weight room. Since my arrival, I’ve been lifting heavier loads then I ever have. That is only half of the battle. Transferring this strength over to the bike is trickier.

In the afternoon, we practiced accelerations on the track. Some efforts felt good and clean. But some felt clunky. Measuring progress on my bike is harder than in the gym.

To maintain my confidence, I drew on the wins from the weight room that morning. I also replayed the accelerations that felt clean and ignored the ones that didn't.

Progress on the track isn't as visible as in the gym, so you have to be more intentional about building confidence from what you can see.

When frustration arrives, what's the smallest win you can point to?
