Day 07 - March 16

Day 07 - March 16

After Sunday's rest day, Monday brought morning activation drills and an afternoon track session.

I appreciate the activation drills. They prime me mentally and physically. Roller sprints, followed by efforts on the LeMond trainer. A structured way to wake the body up before the main session.

The first max cadence spin felt slow. The second and third were on the money.
The same pattern played out on the trainer during high torque sprints.
The first effort felt disconnected and disengaged. By the time the second and third rolled around, I was fired up and ready. Those next two were my best since my arrival. It’s reassuring to have a number to confirm it: 90rpm, 94rpm, 94rpm.
Each effort building on the last.

It reminded me of something from Saturday’s roller session.
Just as the first five minutes are a lie, the first sprint is also a lie.

The first effort won’t be the best. Use it for information rather than judgement.

What’s the first sprint in your own pursuit? What is it that you need to get through before the real work begins?
