Falling Behind
Just as I was finding my rhythm, it all fell apart.
Pedal
Just as I was finding my rhythm during this offseason, unexpected travel broke my training routine.
Missed workouts were piling up and with each day that passed, I felt like I was slipping further behind.
My sleep was all over the place, and there was little structure to my days.
I felt disheartened thinking about my recent gains quickly withering away.
Two weeks passed until I finally got on the bike again.
I just knew that first ride back would be a rough and difficult session.
Surprise!
I managed to hit a new personal best in both peak cadence and peak power.
That was not at all what I expected.
Prosper
Time away from training often feels like regression and falling behind.
I tend to forget the importance of recovery, and how much rest the body actually needs.
It’s easy to get caught up in trying to do more and more for the sake of progress. Training gives me structure and when that structure falls apart, I beat myself up for slipping.
That personal best was a reminder that progress isn’t lost overnight and that stepping away actually gives the body what it needs to reach the next level.
I'd love to hear your thoughts:
where could you give yourself permission to slow down?
Pedal with effort.
Prosper through rest.
