Day 64 - May 12

Day 64 - May 12

The day’s work began in the gym. I arrived a few minutes early for a longer warm-up to shake off the sluggishness I'd woken up with. The goal was a new ceiling on the back squat: four sets of 160kg for a single rep. Four warm-up sets built me up to the working weight. With the load increasing each set, the nerves from earlier in the morning began to settle.

“Just one rep” kept me relaxed and focused. A few big breaths, I got under the bar, unracked the weight, and stepped back. Left foot placed. Right foot placed. Big breath, brace, and finally, squat. At the bottom the load felt heavy, but familiar. I drove my legs through the ground and stood back up.

“Just one rep.” That was all.

Another PR. What I enjoyed most after the four sets was knowing I had more to give.

I’m learning to celebrate these moments more for myself. In the last two months alone, I've made strides. The last couple of days I'd been fixating on my shortcomings and weaknesses and it brought feelings of dissatisfaction. A win like today reminded me I'm on the right path.

Fixating on what's missing makes it easy to miss what's been built.

What progress have you been dismissing that deserves more acknowledgement?
