The Hardest Rep
Pedal
I really didn’t want to do my cycling workout today.
Sundays have been about resetting, and getting things in place for a successful week.
From the moment I woke up, the grocery shopping, meal prepping and housekeeping to be done was on my mind, and of course the bike training session.
“I’ll ride after breakfast.”
“I’ll ride after grocery shopping.”
“I’ll ride after meal prepping.”
It wasn’t until 7pm that I found enough spark to get myself started. Even then, I had to drag myself through it.
Putting my training kit on alone seemed like a milestone worth celebrating.
With no enthusiasm, I eventually sat on the bike, clipped in, and started pedaling. The first 5 minutes were heavy, rough, and clunky.
“Why am I doing this?”
Then something shifted. My legs started warming up, and I started finding some rhythm in my pedal strokes. I revved the bike up and squeezed out a few warm up sprints. Energy was surging through my body. My legs were primed. My mind was focused, sharp, and ready to attack the rest of the workout.
“I love this.”
Prosper
This keeps happening to me.
I’ll think about the workout ahead and imagine the discomfort and difficulty. Procrastinating and delaying the start feels good in the moment, but it’s just a false pleasure that’s only distracting me from the path toward progress.
Once motion starts, resistance fades.
Every single time, I find myself wishing I would’ve started sooner.
There’s a lesson here that I have to keep reminding myself:
Most progress doesn’t require motivation, but it requires movement.
What are you delaying right now that might soften the moment you begin?
Pedal anyway.
Prosper through motion.
