Day 08 - March 17
Another clear and beautiful day. I headed to Montreux for a medical exam. Before stepping in for the appointment, I had a chance to take in the views of Lake Geneva.
The exam was a grounding moment. For several pages, I answered questions about my health. Questionnaires like this always reminded of how much of a blessing good health is. I’m grateful to answer no to most of them. Any one could make being an athlete significantly harder, or impossible entirely.
The conversations with the doctor surfaced something deeper. His questions reminded me of the inherent risks of the sport. No one’s ever forced me to choose this sport, but here I am. We sacrifice, train, and plan for a race two years away, but who knows where we’ll be tomorrow.
Sure, I could pick a different sport, but risk doesn’t disappear.
I’m on a journey that I’ve been called to.
Leaving it behind would carry its own cost.

What is it that you were built for, and are you sailing toward it?
